Paris has many pools (34 at last count), but don't think that means you can swim in them. Each pool has its own unique signature of unavailability, and determining which pool is open when requires . In general, pools are closed Mondays, open Tuesday - Friday from 7am to 8am, then closed, then open from 11:30 to 1pm, and that's it.

Furthermore, Parisian swimmers, like Italian drivers, universally believe that the lane lines are for decorative purposes only. Some seem to be practicing their aqua ballet routines, others come to the pool just to hang onto the side of the pool right where they put the black "x" and chat with their friends.

Having said that, if you can find an open pool and if you can find an open lane, the pools are cheap, clean and well-maintained.
